IHC reserves verdict on Imran Khan’s plea in Toshakhana case
The Chief Justice said he will investigate the issue, and the decision was postponed until tomorrow.
Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday reserved verdict on former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman’s plea to restore his right to defense in Toshakhana case.
According to details, the PTI leader's attorney Khawaja Haris urged the court to hear the closing arguments in this case before announcing the decision.
According to him, the PTI chairman's defense statement was not taken into consideration by the trial court, and the witness's testimony was dismissed as irrelevant before the statement was ever heard.
The Chief Justice said he will investigate the issue, and the decision was postponed until tomorrow.
The PTI chairman had already appealed to the IHC the trial court's decision to terminate his access to legal representation in the Toshakhana case.
The petitioner pleaded to the high court to declare the trial court’s yesterday’s order as void and restore his right to defence in the case. PTI chairman also requested the court for hearing his petition today.
Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Aamir Farooq heard appeal of the chairman PTI against declaring Toshakhana criminal case as maintainable.
Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday has summoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on August 4.
ECP has summoned PTI Chief over his failure to conduct intra-party elections in his party, which he heads.
As per details, the commission has served the summon notice to Imran Khan in his capacity as the chairman of the party.
The electoral watchdog instructed Imran Khan that if the intra-party elections were not held, his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), would not receive an election symbol.
The PTI was allowed to conduct intra-party polls until June 13, 2021, however upon request, a one-year extension was granted. The ECP further stated that further delays are not feasible because a final notice was issued in June 2022.
