Election Commission cannot automatically advance the date of the elections, the verdict said.

Islamabad: The detailed verdict of Supreme Court regarding elections in Punjab has been released.
According to details, Election Commission could not give a satisfactory answer to the query regarding the extension of election date.
Supreme Court in its decision said that the duty of Election Commission is not only to ensure the elections but also to ensure their fair and transparent conduct.
It has been stated in the verdict that question is what Election Commission should have done when the executive authorities failed. Constitutionally and legally the answer is very clear, instead of postponing the elections for months, the commission should have come to the court itself to take the writ.
According to the Supreme Court, elections are not only the demand of the petitioners, but the people of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Election Commission cannot automatically advance the date of the elections.
