Irrfan Khan’s relative dies without receiving treatment for Covid-19
New Delhi: The situation in Indian hospitals is so bad that even the relatives of Bollywood superstars can’t find beds to receive treatment.

The late Irrfan Khan’s wife, Sutapa Sikdar, took to social media to express outrage at not finding a bed for Sameer Bannerjee, a relative, whom she had been trying to get admitted into hospital after he tested positive for the coronavirus in New Delhi.
“I posted day before for help for my relative Sameer Banerjee. Today he left us. We couldn’t set up an ICU at home in Delhi the capital of India. And we couldn’t get a bed in the hospital,” she wrote on Facebook. “I will not forget this mayhem in Delhi. You don’t forget too that Banerjee sheikhs das adjanias all have to go and they could have stayed with us all a bit longer if we would have concentrated as a country more on hospital oxygen plants then Hindu festivals and Muslim festivals. #delhigovt #modi #bettertobeachotarajan #don’tforget.”
Sutapa Sikdar has been using her social media accounts to find beds and treatment for many Covid victims.
India has become the epicenter of the fight against the virus, with over 400,000 people testing positive for the virus in a single day, breaking world records. Images and footage of overflowing crematoriums running out of space have horrified the world, as people die on streets and in ambulances, waiting for a hospital bed or for oxygen.
The Narendra Modi led government has been severely criticized for not paying heed to warnings from scientists and healthcare officials of the incoming surge. The BJP government neither prepared for oxygen, nor increased hospital capacity.
It is beleieved that the surge has been driven in part by variants of the virus, including a ‘double-mutant’ variant that was discovered just a few weeks ago.
