The increase in diesel prices has now raised concerns about a possible adjustment in train fares.

Karachi: Train fares may witness an increase after the recent surge in diesel prices, prompting the railway authorities to consider adjusting the fare structure.
Following the substantial rise in petroleum product prices, diesel rates have also been raised, leading the railway management to contemplate raising train fares.
Yesterday, the government increased the prices of petroleum products by up to Rs. 20 per liter, causing petrol to reach Rs. 290.45 per liter after the addition of Rs. 17.
Moreover, the price of high-speed diesel surged to Rs. 293.40 per liter after an increase of Rs. 20.
Sources indicate that railway authorities have initiated discussions on potential fare adjustments.
The railway sources revealed that the hike in diesel prices is likely to influence train fares, and a notification regarding the fare adjustments might be issued within a day or two.
This surge in petroleum prices has also translated into higher public transportation costs in Lahore.
