Toshakhana verdict: SC to hear Imran khan’s appeal on August 23
The Islamabad High Court's ruling has been challenged to the Supreme Court by Chairman PTI, who is currently being held at Attock Jail.
Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday has fixed for hearing former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s appeal against the Toshakhana case on August 23.
The case will be heard on August 23 by a three-judge panel of the SC, which will be made up of Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial, Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, and Justice Jamal Mandokhel.
The Islamabad High Court's ruling has been challenged to the Supreme Court by Chairman PTI, who is currently being held at Attock Jail.
The PTI president had filed a petition with the Supreme Court asking it to declare the trial court's judgement and sentence against him "illegal"
The petition asked "the Hon'ble Court may graciously be pleased to set aside the impugned judgment dated 05.08.2023, declare the appellant's conviction and sentence to be unlawful and without legal basis, and declare the appellant innocent of the charges brought against him."
The PTI chairman was sentenced to three years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs100,000 by Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Humayun Dilawar on August 5, 2023, after the judge found Khan guilty of graft in the Toshakhana case — a development that disqualified him for five years.
A number of arguments are cited in the petition in order to denounce and completely overturn the conviction. The disputed judgment's "totally misdirected" nature is one of the arguments made in the petition for the motion.
Furthermore, A criminal complaint submitted by the ECP served as the foundation for the Toshakhana case, which was brought by lawmakers of the previous coalition government.
