Lahore: Prime Minister Imran Khan has performed the groundbreaking of the Punjab Peri Urban Low-Cost Housing scheme.

While addressing the groundbreaking ceremony at Raiwind on Thursday, Imran Khan said that his government is focusing on the housing sector to achieve higher growth and provide more employment opportunities to the people.
“After we provided incentives to the construction industry, there has been a record sale of cement. The impact of the revival of construction industry will soon be visible on the overall economy,” he said.
Terming his government's low cost housing initiative as a ‘revolution in the country’, PM said that it will enable the common man including the salaried class, welders, mechanics and small farmers to have their own houses.
“The banks are now providing loans on low interest rates to the common man to construct their own houses. We also have a plan to convert slums into such facilities where people have access to all basic amenities including electricity, gas and sewerage,” he said.
Shedding light on the Peri Urban housing scheme, Imran Khan said that the housing units are being constructed in areas where there was no concept of building the houses.
Imran Khan said that efforts are underway to uplift the agricultural sector as well.
“There has been a record production of maize, wheat and rice and it has happened because we ensured that the farmers get better price of their produce,” he said.
Imran Khan said that the agricultural sector will be transformed through the introduction of new technologies and techniques.
“Our exports have also beginning to rise due to the incentives provided to the industries. The people will see the positive outcome of present government's policies in the coming days,” he said.
