Complete lockdown to be imposed in Islamabad today
Islamabad: The deputy commissioner of Islamabad has announced that a full lockdown would be imposed in Islamabad today (May 7) from 6pm onwards, in a bid to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.
The deputy commissioner also added that all parks and commercial areas will also be closed after 6 pm.
Public transport will also be suspended and all recreational spots will remain closed. The federal government has taken the move to curb the rising number of coronavirus infections.
Moreover, rangers and army personnel will be deployed in the city to monitor the situation.
A day prior, Punjab government announced that it would impose a complete lockdown in the province from May 8 to May 16, in wake of deadly Covid-19 third wave.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the provincial health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid and decided that all activities will be banned in the province on the said dates.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has reported 140 Covid-related fatalities in one day as country is presently experiencing the third wave of coronavirus which is said to be deadlier and more contagious than previous two waves.
According to National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), around 4,298 cases of coronavirus were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 18,677.
The total number of confirmed cases reached to 850,132.
As many as 743,124 patients have recovered from the disease with 5,107 critical cases.
