Netherlands name squad for ICC ODI World Cup 2023
Roelof van der Merwe and Colin Ackermann have been invited back for the Netherlands' World Cup campaign.
The upcoming ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023, which will take place in India from October 5 to November 19, will include a 15-member squad, according to the Netherlands Cricket's announcement on Thursday.
Roelof van der Merwe and Colin Ackermann have been invited back for the Netherlands' World Cup campaign after the veterans were unable to compete in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier competition, which was how the Netherlands qualified for the World Cup.
27-year-old wicket-keeper batter Scott Edwards will lead the team in their return to the ODI World Cup after they failed to qualify for the 2015 and 2019 events.
The Netherlands had previously competed in four ODI World Cups, debuting in the 1996 tournament, but they were unable to qualify for the 1999 tournament. Following that, they participated in three straight World Cups in 2003, 2007 and 2011.
The Netherlands will face Australia on September 30 and India on October 3 in practice matches before beginning their World Cup 2023 campaign against Pakistan on October 6 at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
