Republican Speaker launches impeachment inquiry against US President
Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden, is already facing an FBI investigation related to tax crimes associated with his foreign business interests.
Washington: Republican Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, has officially announced an impeachment inquiry against the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden.
The investigation, as outlined by Speaker McCarthy, will delve into allegations of abuse of power, obstruction of justice, and corruption charges against President Biden.
Furthermore, it will scrutinize whether President Biden's son, Hunter Biden, has derived any benefits from his business dealings.
Speaker McCarthy emphasized that these allegations collectively point to a culture of corruption that warrants a thorough investigation of President Biden.
Reacting to the impeachment inquiry, the White House spokesperson pointed out that Republicans have been conducting investigations against the President for the past nine months but have failed to produce concrete evidence.
Under the US Constitution, presidential impeachment is only possible if a President is found to be involved in treason, bribery, or other major crimes. This process is known to be lengthy and complex.
The next step involves a potential vote on the issue in the House of Representatives, where Republicans currently hold a 222-212 majority.
However, it is expected that the Senate, where Democrats have the majority, will not proceed with the impeachment process.
