Water-sharing with India is our biggest issue: Barrister Ali Zafar
India's consistent breach of the Indus Waters Treaty and its contemplation of constructing an additional 3,000 dams in the future: Barrister.
Islamabad: In a recent statement, Barrister Ali Zafar emphasized that the most significant issue Pakistan faces with India is related to water distribution.
He raised concerns about India's construction of dams on the Neelum and Jhelum Rivers, emphasizing that if India continues building more dams, it could exacerbate problems for Pakistan.
During an in-camera meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice, Barrister Ali Zafar noted that India has been consistently violating the Indus Waters Treaty.
He further disclosed that India has plans to construct an additional 3,000 dams in the future.
To address these concerns, the committee received a briefing from the Attorney General and decided to formulate a strategy, taking into account the technical aspects of the issue.
In the upcoming meetings, experts from the Commissioner of Indus Water, the Ministry of Law, and the Foreign Office will be consulted to develop a comprehensive approach.
Among the topics to be discussed in future sessions, the committee plans to explore the possibility of approaching the International Court of Justice to resolve the ongoing water-sharing dispute between Pakistan and India.
