LHC gives reserved verdict in sugar prices case
It was stated in the court decision that the Price Act 1977 is declared null and void to the extent of Punjab.
Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Thursday gave a reserved verdict in the case related to fixing the prices of sugar.
According to details, a two-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court gave a pre-emptive verdict on the petition related to fixing the price of sugar.
The court declared invalid the notification of Federal Secretary Controller General Price to fix the price of sugar and ordered that the Punjab government will fix the price of sugar in the province.
It was stated in the court decision that the Price Act 1977 is declared null and void to the extent of Punjab. The detailed decision will be issued later.
It should be noted that the sugar mill owners had challenged the federal government's move to set sugar prices, on which the Lahore High Court had suspended the ongoing notification regarding sugar prices.
