UNSC to meet today to discuss raging Israeli-Palestinian conflict
The top UN officials said they are “in close contact with all concerned to urge maximum restraint” following “horrific scenes of violence”.
New York: The UN Security Council on Sunday convened an emergency private meeting later today to discuss the raging Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Meanwhile, the top UN officials said they are “in close contact with all concerned to urge maximum restraint” following “horrific scenes of violence”.
Expressing deep concern for the civilian population and urging maximum restraint, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said all diplomatic efforts are being made to avoid a wider conflagration.
He said violence cannot provide a solution to the conflict and peace can be achieved only through negotiation that lead to a two-state solution.
Earlier in the day, President Dr. Arif Alvi says progress towards peace cannot be materialized without condemnation of usurpation and brutalization of Palestinian rights and people by Israel.
In a tweet on the social media platform X, he said continuous annexation of land, illegal settlements, disproportionate reactions and killings. The result is no hope and no progress towards peace.
The President said time has come to move forward in line with UN resolutions. He said international community can play a big role today towards world peace.
