Journalists face particularly severe threats in Gaza, CPJ.

Gaza: Amid the ongoing conflict between the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and Israel, a devastating toll on the journalist community has emerged.
A recent report by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reveals that 16 journalists have lost their lives during the Gaza war, with many others facing injuries and detentions.
According to the CPJ's findings, from October 7 to October 17, at least 15 journalists fell victim to the ongoing hostilities.
This tragic toll comprises 11 Palestinians, three Israelis, and one Lebanese journalist.
The loss of another Palestinian journalist in an Israeli airstrike in the northern Gaza Strip on Tuesday elevated the total to 16 casualties.
The CPJ report also highlights that eight journalists have been injured, and three others are currently missing or detained, underscoring the extreme risks that journalists in Gaza face while trying to cover the conflict.
These dangers are exacerbated by Israeli military ground attacks, devastating airstrikes, communication disruptions, and power outages, making the work of journalists in the region exceptionally perilous.
Sharif Mansoor, the Coordinator of CPJ's Middle East and North Africa program, emphasized that journalists are civilians carrying out crucial work during times of crisis and should not become targets of warring parties.
He called for all involved parties to take immediate measures to ensure the safety of journalists who are making significant sacrifices to provide coverage of this heart-wrenching conflict.
The Gaza conflict has resulted in a significant loss of life and a humanitarian crisis.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 2,808 Palestinians have lost their lives, and 10,859 people have sustained injuries, with many in critical condition due to Israeli attacks since the hostilities began on October 7.
On the Israeli side, the number of casualties stands at 1,400, including 293 soldiers and more than 3,500 individuals have been injured due to attacks by Hamas.
