The two sides agree to acquire technical assistance from the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology to cope up with smog.


Lahore: Consul general of China Mr. Zhao Shiren met with the Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi at CM office today in which mutual assistance possibilities for the elimination of smog were reviewed. It was principally agreed during the meeting to acquire technical assistance from the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology to cope up with smog hazards.
It was further agreed that an Air Quality Monitoring System will be installed in Lahore with the collaboration of a Chinese company. It was also agreed during the meeting to initiate immediate contacts between the specialists of environment affairs of China and Punjab in this regard.
CM Mohsin Naqvi while talking with the Chinese Consul General stated that we are striving to acquire technical assistance and latest equipment from China in order to cope up with smog. We are adopting a long term policy for the eradication of smog. The main cause of smog in Lahore is due to burning of crops stubble in India. CM said that he is thankful to the cooperation of Chinese Consul General and the Chinese Consulate for his successful China visit.
The hospitality of Ningxia Party Secretary and other officials will be remembered for a long period of time. Mohsin Naqvi apprised that Tourist Police is also being established in Punjab on the pattern of China adding that we want to benefit from the skills of China in agriculture research, water management and other affairs.
The Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren while talking with CM acknowledged that the Punjab government is taking commendable steps for the elimination of smog. The usage of zig-zag technology in the brick-kilns of Punjab and measures are highly appreciable.
“We highly thank the Punjab government on establishing a Diplomatic Enclave in Lahore,” said the Chinese diplojmat. The proposal to contact with the Chinese government in order to bring Panda animal in the Lahore Zoo was also reviewed during the meeting. Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Amir Mir, Chairman P&D, Commissioner Lahore, Secretary to CM, Secretary to CM (Implementation) and other officials were also present on the occasion.
