Nepra directed concerned authorities to ensure the safety of passengers.

Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notice raising concerns about the high voltage wires suspended over railway tracks, emphasizing the significant risks they pose to both railway employees and passengers.
In the notice, NEPRA questions the safety measures implemented by Pakistan Railways, DISCOs (Distribution Companies), and NTDC (National Transmission and Despatch Company).
NEPRA has issued a stern warning and directed NTDC, Railways, and DISCOs to prioritize and ensure passenger safety.
The notice highlights a crucial issue: the railway tracks that intersect with overhead power lines often lack the necessary safety measures, making high-voltage electric wires a substantial threat to the entire railway system.
NEPRA strongly advises conducting a comprehensive survey aimed at enhancing the safety of the national railway tracks and stations.
It is essential to note that while the government's top officials express regret after major railway accidents, the railway system often continues its operations without addressing underlying safety concerns.
There has been a notable lack of government focus on improving the deteriorating railway infrastructure.
Observers suggest that the current condition of railway tracks and signaling systems is so precarious that, in principle, no passenger train can be considered entirely safe for travel.
