LHC issues notice to parties on curtailment of anti-corruption powers

Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Wednesday issued notices to the parties during the hearing on the petition filed against the reduction of anti-corruption powers and sought responses.

According to the details, Justice Abid Hussain Chatta of Lahore High Court heard the petition of citizen Sardar Shamin Gul during which the court also summoned Advocate General Punjab for assistance.

During the hearing, the petitioner's lawyer said that anti-corruption has been abolished through this ordinance.

The court inquired under which law this ordinance can be challenged, to which the petitioner's lawyer said that an arrest can be made only if the bureaucracy allows it.

On which the court said that they will give permission. The lawyer petitioner stated that they had made such a law in 2014 also which was declared null and void by the LHC.

It is pertinent to note that the citizen has made the governor and anti-corruption Punjab among others party to the petition.

The petitioner requested the court that the law was promulgated against this ordinance. The court should annul the move to limit anti-corruption powers.
