Rawalpindi: Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir today left for the United States on an official visit.

This is General Syed Asim Munir’s first visit to the United Sates as Chief of the Pakistan Army.

During his visit, the Army Chief is scheduled to meet the senior military and other government officials of the United Sates.

Recently, Thomas West, the United States Special Representative for Afghanistan, concluded a two-day visit to Pakistan, engaging in discussions with the country's top civil and military leadership concerning the security threats arising from the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and issues related to Afghan refugees.

The senior diplomat from the Biden administration visited Pakistan from December 7 to 9. In a statement shared on the social media platform X at the end of his trip, West described his visit as "productive" and mentioned important dialogues with Jalil Abbas Jilani, the caretaker Foreign Minister, General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, Asif Durrani, Special Representative on Afghanistan, and MOI Secretary Durrani. The discussions centered around the significant security challenges posed by TTP and the necessity to address concerns related to Afghan refugees.

Furthermore, West emphasized the United States' commitment to supporting Pakistan in the fight against terrorism in the region. He expressed gratitude for the close communication with Islamabad on refugee protection issues, highlighting collaboration with international organizations and emphasizing the importance of humane and dignified treatment.
