The papers of the nominees of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly have been approved.


Lahore: The election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly will be held today (Saturday) through secret ballot in the assembly chambers.
According to the details, the second session of the Punjab Assembly will be held today at 4:00 pm in which Speaker Punjab Assembly Muhammad Sibtain Khan will chair the election of incumbent Speaker while newly elected Speaker by the House will conduct election of the Deputy Speaker.
The nomination papers for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly were submitted before 5:00pm yesterday and were scrutinized at that time.
For Speaker, Malik Ahmed will compete with Ahmad Khan of Sunni Ittehad Council. For the post of Deputy Speaker, Zaheer Iqebal Chanar and Moin Riaz Qureshi will compete.
The papers of the nominees of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly have been approved.
It is pertinent to note that yesterday, 313 newly elected members of the Punjab Assembly took oath. Nominated Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz and other members signed the golden book.
Among those who took the oath included 215 members of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and 98 members of the Sunni Ittehad Council.
During the meeting, Secretary Punjab Assembly announced the panel of chairpersons which includes Malik Ahmed Khan, Saima Kanwal, Rahila Naeem, Ali Haider Gilani.
