Maryam Nawaz elected as new CM Punjab

Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz has been elected as new chief minister of Punjab who got 220 votes. While Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan managed to score zero votes.

The meeting of the Punjab Assembly for the election of Chief Minister Punjab is being held Monday under the chairmanship of the newly elected Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan.

According to the details, Maryam Nawaz has been elected as first female Chief minister of Punjab. PML-N leader is also the first woman to hold this office in any of the provinces in the history of Pakistan.

The process of vote counting for other members is underway.

Maryam Nawaz of PML-N and Rana Aftab Ahmed of Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) were contesting for the election of the Chief Minister of Punjab.

It is pertinent to note that the session of Punjab Assembly for the election of Chief Minister started early today. During the session, the members of Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) walked out of the assembly and did not participate in the polling process. However, the newly elected speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan continued to process without their participation.
