Global Day of Parents is being observed today (Tuesday). The day is marked to appreciate all parents for their selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship.

The Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2012 to honour parents throughout the world.
In 1980s, the General Assembly adopted a number of resolutions and proclaimed the International Year of the Family and the International Day of Families.
The day gives kids from every corner of the globe the chance to honour and thank their parents.
According to the UN, "Parents are the anchors of the family and the foundation of our communities and societies”
History and significance
Designated by the General Assembly in 2012, it was proclaimed that June 1 will be observed annually as the Global Day of Parents in honour of parents throughout the world.
The important role of the family has increasingly come to the attention of the international community ever since 1980s.
The Global Day of Parents recognizes that the family has the primary responsibility for the nurturing and protection of their children.
