WhatsApp accounts to be working across up to four devices

Multi-device support will be very important for WhatsApp users as they will be able to use their account on multiple devices at the same time and for the first time an important detail has come out from the company in this regard.

The company has for the first time stated an account can be used on many devices.

WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart has confirmed that the company is working on a feature that will allow users to access their account across multiple devices.

Speaking to WABetaInfo, a site that leaks details of WhatsApp features, Will Cathcart revealed that the feature will allow users to use an account on 4 devices simultaneously, while iPad support will soon be available.

Keep in mind that at this time the user can only log in to a mobile phone and use the web version on a computer web browser, but for this, it is necessary to have a mobile device nearby.

If the user wants to use their account on another phone, they have to go through the process of signing in again.

However, after the multi-device feature, WhatsApp will also be able to be used on multiple devices like Facebook Messenger.

He also said that the multi-device feature is now being released in the public beta version so beta testers can use it to give feedback.

However, he did not say anything about the availability of the feature to the general public.

News of the multi-device support feature first surfaced in July 2019, and WABetainfo reported at the time that WhatsApp was working on a new platform (Universal Windows Platform) that allows an account to log in to multiple devices at once.

According to earlier reports, the main device will not need a dynamic internet connection like the WhatsApp web during multi-device support.

As well as multi-device support, Zuckerberg also confirmed that WhatsApp is adding a new “view once” feature, which will allow users to send content that disappears after it’s been viewed. The service is also expanding its disappearing messages feature, which currently allows messages to be deleted after a set period. 

In the future, a new “disappearing mode” will let you turn on disappearing messages across all chat threads.

Facebook’s CEO confirmed that the multi-device feature will not compromise the end-to-end encryption that WhatsApp offers for messages sent between individuals. “It’ll still be end-to-end encrypted,” Zuckerberg wrote. 

“It’s been a big technical challenge to get all your messages and content to sync properly across devices even when your phone battery dies, but we’ve solved this and we’re looking forward to getting it out soon!”

WhatsApp did not confirm when the “view once” and “disappearing mode” features are expected to launch, but Cathcart said that multi-device support will be entering public beta “in the next month or two.”
