Punjab govt launched environment-friendly campaign ahead of Earth Day: CM Maryam
CM Maryam highlights the commencement of the 'no to plastic' campaign, scheduled for implementation starting June 5, with a ban on plastic bags throughout Punjab.
Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the initiation of an Environment-Friendly Grand Plan by the Punjab government ahead of Earth Day. Emphasizing the importance of the occasion, she mentioned that Earth Day celebrations were underway at divisional and district levels across Punjab.
CM Maryam highlighted the commencement of the 'no to plastic' campaign, scheduled for implementation starting June 5, with a ban on plastic bags throughout Punjab. Stressing the significance of the initiative, she underscored the adverse impacts of plastic on human health and the environment.
Appealing to the public, including shopkeepers, malls, restaurants, and households, Maryam urged support for the campaign against plastic usage. She emphasized refraining from the use of plastic bags and other items, particularly in food and beverage containers.
Furthermore, the CM urged citizens and media to raise awareness about environmental protection and human health, urging active participation to ensure the success of the campaign. Special lectures and training workshops were announced for students and educational institutions to promote environmental consciousness.
Maryam Nawaz expressed determination towards making Punjab greener and free from smog and toxic emissions. She reiterated the collective responsibility of safeguarding the Earth, highlighting global warming, pollution, deforestation, and land erosion as imminent threats.
Recognizing the detrimental effects of burning plastic, Maryam emphasized the link between plastic pollution and health issues such as cancer and respiratory diseases. She stressed the government's commitment to environmental improvement, including initiatives like building new hospitals, enhancing treatment facilities, and launching the largest plantation drive in Punjab's history.
On Earth Day, the CM declared the launch of historic eco-friendly initiatives, including the introduction of electric buses, eco-friendly fuel, and modern technology to address environmental challenges.
Maryam Nawaz concluded by urging every citizen to contribute to Earth's preservation by planting trees and adopting eco-friendly practices, emphasizing that the well-being of humans and animals depends on the health of the planet.
