Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to provide free solar system to the deserving people of the province.
According to the documents, free solar system will be provided to 50,000 households consuming up to 100 units of electricity per month. All expenses will be borne by the provincial government and users will be able to register through SMS.
100 percent cost of solar system and installation will be borne by the Punjab government. The project will cost 10 billion rupees. The households benefiting from electricity theft, meter tampering record or any other scheme will not be eligible.
According to the documents, eligible customers will be able to register by sending their bill reference number and identity card number to 8800. The data of customers using less than 100 units of electricity will be provided to the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC).
NTC will also provide the data of eligible users to Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) after verification, the final lists issued by PITB will be sent to the district administration.
According to the official documents, the Department of Energy also got approval for the establishment of a project management unit for the implementation of the project.
