An Indian actress Ayesha Sulthana has been charged with sedition charges for criticizing government policies on the coronavirus.

According to Indian Media, Kavaratti Police has served a notice to leading Lakshadweep film personality Ayesha Sulthana to appear before it on June 20, in connection with her remarks made on a Malayalam TV channel about the spread of COVID in the island.
The complaint was registered by BJP's local leader following the TV channel debate on June 7, where the actress had said in a talk show that "the Indian government is using Corona as a biological weapon in the Lakshadweep area", which according to the complainant as anti-national.
Sulthana who hails from Chelath Island in Lakshadweep is based here and besides being a model, she has worked in numerous films in Malayalam.
It should be noted that Lakshadweep is an area of various islands near the Indian state of Kerala with a population of less than 65,000.
