New Dehli: As the tenure of General Manoj Pande concludes, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi has been appointed as the new Chief of Army Staff of India.
A statement issued by the Defence Ministry confirms that Dwivedi will assume his new role from June 30.
Defence Ministry Spokesperson A Bharat Bhushan Babu posted on X: "The government has appointed Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, currently serving as Vice Chief of the Army Staff, as the next Chief of the Army Staff, effective from the afternoon of June 30, 2024."
Dwivedi has served in the military for over 39 years, holding positions such as sector commander and inspector general, and has commanded various units in Rajasthan and Kashmir. He served as the 46th Vice Chief of the Army Staff from February 2024 to June 2024.
Besides it, Dwivedi has held roles as deputy chief at Army Headquarters and commander of the 9th Corps in Himachal Pradesh.
Apart from his military achievements, Dwivedi's academic qualifications include an MPhil in Defence & Management Studies and Master's Degrees in Strategic Studies and Military Science.
Lt Gen Dwivedi has been honored with numerous awards, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), and three GOC-in-C Commendation Cards.
