Antigua: In the match of International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 Men’s World Cup 2024, Afghanistan qualified for the Super-8 stage by defeating the team of Papua New Guinea.

The match between the two teams of Group C was played at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Taruba, with Afghanistan winning the toss and electing to field first.

Papua New Guinea's innings

On the invitation of Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea started batting which proved to be a bad failure. Captain Asadwala was run out on 12 runs and came back. The Lega Saika who came after him was caught without scoring any runs, Sisi Bau also followed the Lega.  Hari Hari just rounded the crease and returned to the pavilion.  

Kaplan Dorega played an innings of 27 runs, Eli Nau scored 13 runs, Tony Ira scored 11 runs and Chad Soper scored nine runs, thus the whole Papuan team was bowled out for 95 runs in the last over of the innings.

Afghanistan innings

On behalf of Afghanistan, Fazal-ul-Haq Farooqui scored three, Naveen-ul-Haq scored two and Noor Ahmed took one player to the pavilion.

Later, the target of 96 runs was achieved by the Afghan batters in 15.1 overs for the loss of three wickets.

Before this match, Afghanistan played two matches in their group and won both. Afghanistan defeated Uganda by 125 runs in their first match and New Zealand by 84 runs in their second match.
