Tamil Nadu: In the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, at least 29 people have died and dozens have deteriorated after drinking poisoned liquor.
According to Indian media reports, 68 people were transferred to the hospital after drinking poisonous alcohol in the Kalakurichi district of Tamil Nadu, out of which 24 people were transferred to other hospitals due to their worsening condition.
According to media reports, most of the people affected by the poisoned liquor belonged to the Karunapuram area, one of whom told the boy's mother that her son was suffering from stomach pain and his eyes were not opening. The hospital refused to admit him saying that he had drunk alcohol and the government should close all liquor shops.
The mother of another victim boy said that her son had such severe stomach pain that he could neither hear nor see.
The police have detained three persons on the charge of selling poisoned liquor and started an investigation into the matter. At the same time, three officials of the concerned department have also been suspended.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed deep sorrow over the deaths due to the consumption of poisoned liquor and said that the accused have been arrested and action has been taken against the officials concerned, and now such illegal businesses will be cracked down on.
