Antigua: South Africa defeated West Indies and qualified for the semi-finals after a thrilling match in the Super-VIII stage of the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 Men’s World Cup 2024.

In the T20 World Cup 2024 Super-VIII stage match played at the Sir Vion Richard Cricket Stadium, South Africa won the toss and decided to field against the host West Indies.

West Indies innings

At the invitation of South Africa, West Indies made a disappointing start to the batting, with a total score of five. Two players of the host team returned to the pavilion, Shay Hope zero while captain Nicholas Pooran could only make one run.

Ruston Chase, who came in at number three, put on a partnership of 81 runs with Kyle Meyers to take the team to 86 runs after opener Meyers was caught at the crease with 35 runs.

None of the West Indies batsmen could stay at the crease for long to support the Ruston Chase and one after another got out and returned to the pavilion. Andy Russell scored 15 runs and Aqeel Hussain scored six runs.

Similarly, Alzari Joseph remained not out with 11 runs and Gadkesh Moti with four runs, so the host team could only score 134 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

On behalf of South Africa, leg-spinner Tabrez Shamsi bowled brilliantly and sent three players to the pavilion for 27 runs in four overs.

West Indies Squad

West Indies were captained by Roman Powell while other players included Kyle Meyers, Shay Hope, Nicholas Pooran, Ruston Chase, Andre Russell, Sharfin Rutherford, Aqeel Hussain, Alzari Joseph, Gadkesh Moti and Obaid Makay.

South Africa squad

South Africa was led by Aiden Markram while Quinton de Kock, Reza Hendricks, Henrik Klaasen, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Johnson, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Enrich Nokia and Tabriz Shamsi were part of the team.
