Shabana Mehmood swears in as UK's first female Muslim Lord Chancellor

London: Member of Parliament Shabana Mehmood was sworn in as the first female Muslim Lord Chancellor of the United Kingdom.

According to the British media, Shabana Mehmood of Pakistani origin took oath on the Holy Quran.

On this occasion, Shabana Mehmood said that this responsibility is both a privilege and a burden. This responsibility will open doors for the coming generations. ‘I am the first Lord Chancellor who can speak Urdu’.

Shabana pledged to defend the international rule of law and uphold human rights, saying that the judiciary should make decisions without political pressure and undue influence.
