Islamabad: Jamat-e-Islami’s (JI) sit-in against inflation and heavy electricity bills Monday entered its fourth day today. Amir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that he is telling Punjab and the federal government that they are making the situation worse for themselves by putting obstacles, it will not make any difference to the sit-in.
Hafiz Naeem stated during the news conference that people are present in the protest on Murree Road even in the hot weather and rain. Today, there will be a public rally for women. Women coming to participate in the sit-in have been stopped by blockades in Lahore.
He added that people across the country have pinned their hopes on this sit-in. They are getting frustrated to the point of suicide. ‘We have demonstrated peaceful resistance with great courage and tact’.
JI Amir further said that people are doing double jobs, yet the expenses are not met.
Naeem-ur-Rehman also stated that due to high electricity bills, there are disputes among family members. There is no voice except Jamat-e-Islami. When we announced a sit-in, the roads were blocked.
He, addressing the press conference, demanded the government to release the workers arrested in Lahore.
Jamat-e-Islami Amir Hafiz further added that everyone, including the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, judges, and everyone should use 1300 cc vehicles. The burden of big vehicles is being put on the people.
He said that the former Prime Minister Junejo kept a 1000 cc vehicle for everyone. The government's luxuries will not end and the burden will continue on the people.
The leader of JI said that today it has been four days of this sit-in. This historic sit-in is sending a message of determination and courage to the whole world. Electric bombs are dropping on the people, there is no one to take care of them.
He continued to say that people believe what the government has decided will happen. There is a single-family government.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that there should be a forensic audit of the IPPs. The contracts that expired in 2019, were given contracts again. People are paying more than Rs2,000 billion, the government should not ruin the salaried people.
Amir Jamat-e-Islami stated that all political parties should support us in this struggle. I ask the workers to focus on government initiatives instead of getting confused. Some people are trying to create differences in the parties.
Hafiz Naeem added that the worker is not our enemy, it is a common agenda. Aall political parties are invited to participate in this sit-in.
It is pertinent to note that yesterday, JI leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that the government should not be under any misunderstanding, the sit-in in Rawalpindi will continue until the demands are approved and implemented, and if the demands are not met, the scope of the sit-ins will spread throughout the country.
On July 11, JI Pakistan had announced a sit-in on July 26 in the federal capital, Islamabad.
Amir Jamat-e-Islami Pakistan Hafiz said that the people are not getting relief, all the claims of the rulers have been left behind.
He said that 42 billion dollars have been given by the people of Pakistan for IPPs, this money is collected from us in the form of electricity bills and taxes.
