Bangladesh Chief Justice Obaid will submit resignation after consulting President this evening
Dhaka: In view of the ultimatum of the protesters, the Chief Justice of Bangladesh Obaid-ul-Hassan has decided to resign from his post.
According to Bangladeshi media, hundreds of protesters surrounded the Supreme Court in Dhaka and gave Chief Justice Obaid-ul-Hasan a one-hour ultimatum to resign.
According to media reports, the protesters had announced to storm the judges' residences if they did not resign, after which there are now reports that the Chief Justice of Bangladesh has decided to resign from the post.
Bangladesh Chief Justice Obaid will submit his resignation after consulting the President this evening.
According to Bangladeshi media, Chief Justice Obaid-ul-Hassan had called for a full court meeting with the judges of both divisions.
It is also reported that following the student protest, the Chief Justice adjourned the meeting and decided to resign.
