CM Punjab approves reconstitution of District Peace Committees
Representatives will be taken from all walks of life to reconstitute the district peace committees across Punjab
Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz approved the reorganisation of District Peace Committees.
The Punjab Interior Department wrote a letter to the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts for the notification of new Peace Committees.
According to the post, the representatives will be taken from all walks of life to reconstitute the district peace committees across Punjab. The last time the district peace committees were formed in 2018, most of the officials have died or have become very weak and ineffective.
For the formation of peace committees, the clearance of all the members will be taken from the relevant district intelligence committee. With the reorganisation, the district peace committees will be able to play an effective role in inter-faith harmony and the elimination of sectarianism.
Headed by the concerned deputy commissioner, all district peace committees include members of assembly, the mayor, the chairman municipal committee, the District Police Officer (DPO), the special branch, CTD officials, and representatives of all religions.
According to the spokesman of the Punjab Home Department, orders have been issued to release the notification of new peace committees within two weeks.
