Police detain protesters in violation of section 144

Islamabad: Police detained former JI Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, his wife and others for lodging a pro-Gaza protest at Express Chowk in the federal capital on Saturday.
As Ahmed and his supporters reached the protest site, the policemen there started warning the protesters to disperse. When the protestors didn't disperse, a heavy contingent of police, prisoner vans and women officers reached the spot. Policemen bundled the protesters into police vans and took them to the police stations.
The police also blocked the roads by placing containers on the road to stop the advancement of the protesters. Police claimed that Section 144 was in place to restrain any party or group from holding a protest.
