SC restores NAB amendments

Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan, while accepting the intra-court appeals of the federal government and other victims against the nullification of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) amendments, annulled the decision to nullify the NAB amendments.

The detailed decision of the court stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan failed to prove that the NAB amendments are unconstitutional.

The case was heard by a five-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa comprising Justice Aminuddin, Justice Jamal Mandukhel, Justice Athar Minullah and Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi. The decision was announced with a majority of 5-0.

Justice Athar Minullah rejected the federal government's intra-court appeal and agreed with the majority decision. Besides him, Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi has also written an additional note, the detailed decision will be released on the website of the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court had reserved its decision on June 6 on the appeals against the nullification of the NAB amendments.
