Karachi: The Sindh government has approved the release of Rs1.5 billion for the rehabilitation of rain-affected roads in the city.

Under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister, a review meeting was held in Karachi regarding the repair of rain-affected roads in which Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Provincial Minister for Planning and Development Nasir Shah, Municipalities Minister Saeed Ghani and other officials including Chief Secretary participated.

According to the spokesperson of the Chief Minister, Rs1.5 billion was approved for the repair of the roads affected during the rains in Karachi and it was agreed that there is a need for patchwork of roads in seven districts of the city.

In the meeting, Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani said that they are surveying the roads of Karachi and also ascertaining when those roads were damaged.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah instructed that if the constructed or repaired roads got damaged before time, it should be inquired who built it and why it was damaged. Strict action should be taken against whoever did the poor road work.

The Chief Minister directed the Karachi Metropolitan City (KMC) to build the drainage system of the roads that are constructed. The service line of every road must also be built, there are foot flyovers, repairs and construction of bridges in all the districts of Karachi. ‘I want the road repair or construction work to be of the best quality’.

Mayor Karachi said in the meeting that Rs1.5 billion are required for all these works, which was approved by the Chief Minister.
