We sacrificed generations for democracy: Bilawal

Karachi: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto while addressing the Sindh High Court (SHC) Bar on Tuesday said that they have sacrificed generations to restore democracy.

He stated that they have been associated with SHC for three generations and know each other inside and out.

Bilawal Bhutto added: “I belong to the family, the party that gave the constitution, our history is such that we have also seen the dictatorial period, we have seen how the constitution of 1973 was changed with a quiver of an eye and a movement of the lips”.

He further said that they have also seen how the respected judges allow the dictator to do this, due to which they forget 10 years of democracy and the constitution, and all the power is given to a dictator.

Chairman PPP also stated that our constitution was torn as a piece of paper and it is sad that the judges allowed the dictator to amend the constitution.

He continued to say that we were told that you are so corrupt that the constitution and law do not apply to you. The democratic system of Pakistan is such that we can only afford one PCO judge. If once a PCO judge, takes an oath, then there is a problem with the constitution and democracy.

Bilawal Bhutto said that we made sacrifices of generations for the restoration of democracy so that the will of the people works so that you send such representatives in the parliament that the law of your will is made and the constitution of your will is made.

He said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto signed the Charter of Democracy and determined that if we want to fix the system of Pakistan and restore democracy and solve the problems of the people, then agreements like the Charter of Democracy must be implemented.

Bilawal continued that after passing the 18th amendment under this democratic charter and restoring the 1973 constitution, we fulfilled the unfinished mission of martyr Benazir Bhutto.

He said that when Iftikhar Chaudhry was a PCO judge, he was not a revolutionary. Benazir Bhutto had decided that a constitutional court would be established, judicial reforms would be made and people would get immediate justice.

Chairman PPP said that we have learned lessons from our past, and we respect our lawyers community a lot.
