Jerusalem/Cairo: Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said that the head of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, has been martyred.
In the statement issued by the Israeli army and the intelligence agency Shin Bet, it is also said that Yahya Sinwar was martyred in the operation of the Israeli army in southern Gaza on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Israeli army had expressed the possibility of killing the head of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar.
According to a foreign news agency, the Israeli military said in a statement that it was investigating the possibility that it had killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar after an operation in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Israeli army, three militants were targeted in the operation.
The statement added that the identity of the three persons could not be confirmed at this stage.
The Israeli military statement also said that there were no signs of hostages in the building where the three people were targeted.
According to the news agency, there was no immediate statement from Hamas in this regard.
Israel's Army Radio said that the Israeli army conducted a targeted operation in Rafah area of southern Gaza in which three people were killed and the Israeli army seized their bodies.
Army Radio said that one of the three persons is believed to be Yahya Sinwar and DNA tests are being conducted to confirm it.
Yahya Sinwar was made head of Hamas after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
