Advocate Imran Shafiq expressed hopes that letter would pave way for her repatriation

Islamabad: The government of Pakistan has written a letter to United States President Joe Biden for the pardon and release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, imprisoned in the US.
In the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan heard the appeal of Dr Aafia Siddiqui to be released from the American jail and return home.
Dr Fauzia Siddiqui’s lawyer Advocate Imran Shafiq appeared in court and emphasized the urgency of the matter. He expressed hopes that the letter would pave the way for her repatriation.
“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wrote a letter to the US President for the pardon of Aafia Siddiqui,” Additional Attorney General Munawar Iqbal Dogal informed the IHC about the progress.
It is pertinent to note that Fauzia Siddiqui, sister of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, has applied to the Islamabad High Court.
Earlier in 2010, Pakistani neuroscientist Dr Aafia was imprisoned in the United States for attempted murder and assault on US personnel in Afghanistan.
