Traders’ group accuse government of failing to maintain law and order
Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a notice to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in a contempt of court petition against the party for holding its protests in the capital in violation of a court order.
The court has issued a notice to the PTI and other officials, seeking their responses by next week.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq presided over the hearing on a petition filed by a traders’ organization from Sector F-7. The petition claimed that thousands of protesters, primarily from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, had entered Islamabad despite a court directive against it. It further alleged that the protesters intended to get PTI Founder Imran Khan freed from jail through force.
The traders’ group accused the government and administration of failing to maintain law and order during the protests. They urged the court to take contempt action against the PTI and hold responsible officials accountable for violating judicial orders.
In addition to the PTI, notices have been issued to the interior secretary, chief commissioner, deputy commissioner, and inspector general (IG) of Islamabad police. The court has directed them to explain their position in the next hearing.
