Trump vows to end birthright citizenship

Washington: US President-elect Donald Trump has made it clear that he will make sweeping changes after taking office on January 20, including ending birthright citizenship.

According to a report by foreign news agencies, the newly elected US President said in an interview with NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ that he must immediately fulfill all campaign promises, including deporting all illegal immigrants in the US and ending birthright citizenship.

When asked if he intends to deport illegal immigrants in the next four years of his term, he replied, ‘We will have to do it.’

Trump emphasized that they would end birthright citizenship as enshrined in the US Constitution, and if they could do it through administrative action, they would quickly do so.

It is pertinent to note that Donald Trump has criticized the right to birthright citizenship several times during the election campaign. He believes that the rules regarding automatically declaring any child born on American soil eligible for American citizenship should be changed.

Addressing the public during an election rally, he said: “America is the only country where someone comes and has a child here and that child becomes an American citizen”.

According to the US Constitution, a child born on American soil is also an American citizen, even if the parents are not Americans and even if the parents are illegally residing in the United States.

During the interview, Trump also said that he would work to extend the tax cuts approved in his first term.

He stated that he would not try to ban abortion pills, but he intends to immediately deport millions of illegal immigrants.

He added that on the first day of his presidency, he promised to pardon those arrested in the case of the attack on the US Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, saying that many people had endured excessively harsh treatment in prison.
