Journalists vent their anger against controversial PECA Act

Islamabad: After its approval by the upper and lower houses and the standing committee of the legislative body, the PECA Act has faced severe criticism. It is being criticized by the opposition and the journalist community across the country is protesting against the act.

In Karachi, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) held a protest demonstration against the PECA Amendment Act, which was held outside the Press Club.

A large number of journalists participated in the protest, while representatives of various journalism organizations also showed their presence in it.

Former Press Club President Imtiaz Khan Faran, while addressing the protest demonstration, said that the PECA Act was passed in a hurry.

He further said that on the one hand, there is talk of freedom of expression in the country, but if this law is transparent, then why were journalist organizations not consulted?

Meanwhile, in Lahore, the journalist community protested against the PECA Act outside the Press Club. Parliamentary leader Punjab Assembly Ali Imtiaz Warraich, officials of the Director News Association, representatives of the Young Doctors Association, and representatives of the Punjab Teachers Association also participated in this protest.

Journalists held black flags in their hands and protested by tying black bands on their arms.

The journalists declared this law against freedom of expression and raised their voices against it.

Journalists protested outside the Islamabad Press Club. A large number of the journalist community reached outside the Islamabad Press Club and shouted slogans against the approval of the bill.

Journalists also marched from the Press Club Islamabad to the main road and displayed protest banners. Presidents of various organizations also participated in the protest.
