Allardice's resignation comes shortly after Jay Shah started his term as ICC chair on December 1, succeeding Greg Barclay
(Web Desk): Geoff Allardice has stepped down as the chief executive of the International Cricket Council (ICC) after four years in the role. He explained that he wanted to "pursue new challenges."
Allardice became the CEO in November 2021, after serving as interim CEO for eight months following the suspension of his predecessor, Manu Sawhney. He had worked with the ICC since 2012, first as general manager of cricket, following a previous role at Cricket Australia.
"I am proud of what we’ve achieved during my time at the ICC, from expanding the global reach of cricket to building a strong commercial foundation for ICC Members," Allardice said. "It’s been a privilege to serve as CEO, and I want to thank the ICC Chair, board, and cricket community for their support. I feel this is the right time to step down and take on new challenges. Cricket has an exciting future, and I wish the ICC and the global cricket community continued success."
Allardice's resignation comes shortly after Jay Shah started his term as ICC chair on December 1, succeeding Greg Barclay. Shah expressed gratitude to Allardice for his leadership, saying his efforts had significantly helped in advancing cricket worldwide.
The ICC stated that its board will begin the process of finding a new CEO to succeed Allardice.
