Karachi: Australian batting all-rounder Marcus Stones, who was included in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad, surprised everyone by suddenly announcing his retirement from the ODI format.
Marcus Stones was included in Australia’s 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy starting on February 19 in Pakistan. But after his immediate retirement, he has been out of the event.
Announcing his retirement from ODIs, Marcus Stones said, “It was not an easy decision for me to make, but this is the right time to say goodbye to the ODI format”.
He added that playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey for him and he was grateful for every moment with the team. He was honored to represent his country which he will always cherish.
Marcus Stones also said, “I encourage my compatriots who are going to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy”.
It is pertinent to note that the 35-year-old Australian all-rounder, who has said goodbye to ODI cricket, will continue to represent the country in the T20 format.
