PM says government’s job is not to do business, but to create policies and support business and investment

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered officials to speed up the privatization of government departments, ensuring it is completed on time.
The instruction was given during a meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, where the Task Management System for tracking the privatization process was discussed, according to Radio Pakistan.
The Prime Minister stressed that the privatization process must be transparent and free from legal issues. He suggested hiring well-known lawyers to address any legal challenges that might arise. “Reputable lawyers should be hired to overcome any legal obstacles,” he said.
PM Shehbaz also explained that privatization is part of the government’s “Uraan Pakistan” programme. He added that the government’s role is to support business and investment, not to run businesses directly. “The government’s job is not to do business, but to create policies and support business and investment,” he said.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that the country is moving quickly toward economic improvement due to timely reforms and emphasized the importance of collective efforts for Pakistan’s growth.
During the meeting, the PM was given an update on the Task Management System for privatization and was briefed on the timeline for privatizing different government departments.
The privatization plan has been divided into three phases: the first phase will see ten departments privatized, the second phase will involve thirteen, and the remaining departments will be privatized in the third phase.
