Cashless future on horizon: Google Wallet to Launch in Pakistan today
With Google Wallet, users can enjoy secure, efficient, and convenient way to manage payments, shop online, and travel seamlessly

Karachi: Pakistan’s digital payments ecosystem will witness a transformative development with the official launch of Google Pay on March 12 (today). It has been confirmed that key Google executives will be in Karachi to mark the occasion. Following this launch, Google Wallet will be accessible in Pakistan, with local banks and fintech companies gradually rolling out the service to their customers as they complete the necessary integrations.
The integration with local financial institutions is already in progress, and several banks have completed the process, ensuring a smooth transition for users. This marks a key milestone for Google Pay, one of the world's leading digital payment solutions, in its debut in Pakistan, aligning with the country's shift toward a more cashless economy. In line with the launch, Visa is hosting an exclusive event to commemorate the occasion, further highlighting the significance of this development for Pakistan's payment landscape.
Pakistan has seen steady progress in its digital payments sector, driven by factors such as increased smartphone usage, better internet access, and government initiatives to promote financial inclusion.
With a large, youthful, and tech-savvy population of over 230 million people, the country represents an attractive market for digital payment services. However, cash remains the dominant form of payment, with few people relying on digital wallets or mobile banking services.
The introduction of Google Pay aims to change this by offering a secure, convenient, and fast solution for both consumers and businesses to transfer money, pay bills, and conduct everyday transactions.
Google Pay’s integration with local banks and fintech platforms will give users access to a wide range of financial institutions, making it easier to use the service across the country. The platform allows users to link their bank accounts or cards to the app, enabling them to complete transactions directly from their smartphones.
This launch will also help further develop the country's fintech ecosystem. With open API integrations with several local banks and fintech providers, Google Pay aims to foster innovation and contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s digital payments market. As part of the broader Google Wallet ecosystem, the platform will allow users to manage their payment methods, loyalty cards, and boarding passes in one secure app, integrating seamlessly with Google Pay for daily transactions.
For Pakistan, the arrival of Google Pay is more than just the introduction of a new payment platform—it signals the start of a broader movement toward a cashless society and sets the stage for other international tech companies to explore opportunities in the country’s emerging digital economy.
Farhan Qureshi, Country Director for Google Pakistan, emphasized the impact of this launch, noting that Google Wallet will provide a secure and seamless way for users to make payments, shop, and travel. He further highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to Pakistan's digital future and financial inclusion.

Travel agencies will also enable passengers to store their tickets digitally, streamlining travel check-ins and updates. Additionally, Google Wallet provides real-time notifications about flight details like departure times and gate changes, ensuring a smooth travel experience. International travelers can also use the Wallet for secure payments abroad, eliminating the need to carry physical cards.
How to Set Up Google Wallet

4. To add a new card, tap ‘Add a card,’ review and accept the terms, and complete the verification process.
5. Once the card is verified, it will be ready for use.
