Lahore: The government, which had taken an assurance of Rs140 ex-mill price from sugar mills, itself agreed to the ex-mill price of Rs159 per kg.
Sugar suddenly started to become expensive before Ramadan, after which the hoarders earned billions of rupees in profit until the Prime Minister took notice and the sugar rates came down by Rs10 per kg.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met the sugar mill owners and after listening to their problems, said in a media interview that now the common consumer will get sugar at Rs164 per kg.
He stated that another sub-committee has been formed to review the prices of sugar. Cheap sugar is available at Rs130 per kg in 214 cheap markets.
