Journalist Farhan Mallick's five-day physical remand approved

Karachi: Judicial Magistrate Malir granted journalist Farhan Mallick a five-day physical remand in another case.

Journalist Farhan Mallick was produced by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the court of Judicial Magistrate Malir today in another case, during which FIA officials and Farhan’s lawyer appeared in court.

The First Information Report (FIR) of the case submitted by the FIA to the court stated that on March 25, a call center in Gulshan-e-Iqbal was raided and two accused, Athar Hussain and Hassan Najeeb, were arrested.

The FIR states that the arrested accused are involved in fraud from foreigners, their confidential data was being obtained from foreigners through software, and the accused are involved in fraud and cheating.

According to the FIR of FIA, the arrested accused said that this work was being done at the behest of Farhan Gohar Mallick.

Later, the court handed Farhan over to the FIA on a five-day physical remand in the second case.

Talking to the media in this regard, the journalist’s lawyer Moeez Jafri said that when Farhan Mallick was to be presented for remand the previous day, it was delayed, meanwhile, another case was registered at 9:00am in which two people were nominated.

Lawyer Moeez Jafri stated that this is a completely baseless case, Farhan was arrested after registering a case in a single day. When remand was not obtained, a false case was made against Farhan.

He added that Farhan Mallick has been kept in custody by the FIA in violation of the court order, after being sent to jail according to the law, he was arrested in another case after informing the jail authorities.

Lawyer Moeez further said that Farhan Mallick’s family kept visiting different jails, he was not kept in any jail, and this is the arbitrariness of the FIA.

It is pertinent to note that earlier, journalist Farhan Mallick was arrested by the FIA on charges of violating PECA laws, and yesterday, the court rejected request to extend his physical remand and ordered him to be sent to jail.
