1,500 e-buses to run across Punjab

Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has approved the operation of electric buses in various cities of the province, while orange and red bus services in Faisalabad.

A special meeting of the Transport Department was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister on Monday, in which in-principle approval was given for the project to operate 1,1500 electric buses for various cities of the province.

According to the project, a transport system consisting of electric buses will be started in remote major cities of Punjab in phases. Maryam Nawaz has directed to complete the process of purchasing 380 electric buses in the first phase of the project as soon as possible. Electric buses will be operated in Lahore and Gujranwala in the first phase.

The meeting agreed on a new transport system in six districts including Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Rahim Yar Khan, and DG Khan. Punjab Chief Minister set a deadline of next June for the Lahore, and Gujranwala electric bus service.

It has been decided in the meeting that orange and red bus services will be started in Faisalabad. Red bus services will run from Samundri Road to Sargodha Road and orange bus services from Jaranwala to Jhang Road.

Chief Minister has also sought a plan for the electric bus track in Faisalabad and Gujranwala. She has given 15 days to plan the Yellow Line electric bus track in Lahore and has also sought a plan from the concerned authorities to establish charging stations for electric buses.

Speaking in the meeting, Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, “I am everyone's Chief Minister, not only Lahore but also the people of other cities have full right to a modern transport system. I wish that every major city of Punjab has a wonderful and modern bus system”.

Maryam Nawaz added that electric buses will be operated in other cities to include everyone in the journey of development.
