Junaid Sagar claimed that people got angry and attacked police and also pelted stones


Karachi: Karachi Police has arrested another journalist on charges of incitement and spreading false news on social media.
Sheikh Junaid Sagar Qureshi, who is associated with social media and a newspaper, was arrested during an operation within the limits of Ajmer Nagri police station.
According to the police, this operation has been carried out under the PECA Act and the case was registered on the complaint of ASI Tariq Mumtaz.
According to the complainant, he was watching messages from different people on WhatsApp when he came across a video, which mentioned the incident at the KFC restaurant.
In the video, Junaid Sagar claimed that the people got angry and attacked the police and also pelted stones, as a result of which two officials including the SHO were injured. It was further said that a dumper crushed a woman within the limits of Sir Syed police station.
Police say that an attempt was made to create incitement among the people through these videos and statements, which is a violation of the law. Further investigation into the incident is underway, while Junaid Sagar is likely to be produced in court.
Authorities have appealed to citizens not to spread any news on social media without verified information, otherwise, they may face legal action.
