New breed of chicken can lay up to 200 eggs in a year


(Web Desk): Agricultural scientists in Faisalabad have developed a new breed of chicken that can lay up to 200 eggs in 200 out of 365 days of the year.
Scientists from the Department of Animal Husbandry at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad have introduced this new breed, named ‘Uni-Gold’, which is not only capable of laying around 200 eggs annually but is also more resilient to climate change.
According to the scientists, “We have developed a breed called Uni-Gold that lays more than 200 eggs a year, compared to local desi chickens that lay only 70 to 80 eggs annually. It also has a lower feed requirement and can withstand heat stress better.”
They added that for the first time in 65 years, a breed of chicken has been successfully developed in Pakistan that is especially suitable for rural poultry farming.
Both available breeds are now capable of increasing egg production and meeting the demand for meat, regardless of where they are raised.
Following the development of this Uni-Gold breed, steps are being taken to distribute it to farmers to promote rural poultry farming across the country.
